It reflects on their perpetual flight from suspect identities: as Chinese citizens, women, 'blood packages', costs of rapid development, 'huminerals' (human minerals), patriarchal patches, and colonial fantasies. This work explores the constant diasporic state embodied by these women, focusing on internalized surveillance, bodily colonization, and extractive capitalism's impact on the female body in a post-colonial context. The work opens a dialogue on embodied shame, fears, and trauma carried by women who kept escaping without nostalgia. It invites both participants and audiences on a journey of escape and disengagement, unfolding through constant hesitation and disorientation. "Suspicious Stain" is the artistic component of Qiong Zhang's doctoral research project 'Tracing Ghost Hallucinations in a World of Technological Surveillance', with questions of how national identity might be constructed through individual and collective fantasies and imagination? Participants may choose to reveal the exact scar or indicate its approximate location beneath their clothing. After listening to each participant's narrative, I gently and repeatedly scatter foxtail millet over their scars. The application varies for each individual, reflecting their unique bodily stories and relationship with the scar. The performance concludes when I perceive a subtle shift in the participant's body, mind, breath, or in our shared atmosphere. Foxtail millet, one of the world's oldest crops and a staple in ancient China, holds significance in my hometown near the Tibetan Plateau, where it was used in daily cleansing and exorcism rituals. In this work, each participant's body receives foxtail millet as a gift, believed to bring healing and purification. The millet used is freshly imported from China by myself and fellow Chinese students studying in Finland. This ongoing process spans two days, with each session lasting approximately 5-10 minutes. As audiences come and go, a layer of yellowish millet gradually accumulates on the performance space floor. The performance takes place at the starting point of the largest military project built by China's first emperor more than 2,000 years ago with the labour and resources of the whole country. Yet few people can find it today. Back to the beginning of all walls, back to the end of time and space, back to the time when more than two thousand years of imprisonment were about to begin, I added another absurd wall on top of the great wall. I changed the orientation of a brick. I stretched out a finger and pushed down a crumbling wall. Since the early 21st century, the Chinese government has been building an ever-expanding Great Firewall to protect its citizens from dangerous ideas from the rest of the world. It has now grown into an almost unassailably large and complex system of technological surveillance and censorship. Unlike the ancient Great Wall, most people living behind the newly built Great Firewall are unaware of its existence and its impact on their lives. In the performance, I attempt to approach the process of discarding, and perform the act of discarding at the Orijärvi deposit, a depleted copper mine in Southwest Finland. Standing next to a pile of weathered copper ore rocks, I kept throwing a fishing net into the air, pushing the morphing twisted monster out of my sight, although it always returns to me after a while. I imagine the excavation-discard process as a slow-motion discus-throwing movement, a discarded mine pit would be like a discus thrown into the void, while the mine pit became a trap. Within the void of the trap, something has been erased. Through the performance of discard, I attempt to reveal the overlapping layers of excavation and hidden human traces. This work is also a parody of a jokey Chinese urban legend, according to which, if my excavation were an ancient tomb, I should bring a fishing net in case the ghosts and corpses resting lying inside jumped out at me while I was excavating the treasures. I then scattered the cards into the Baltic Sea. I was sitting in the boat, blowing bubble gum and floating in the sea with them. Later, I retrieved some of them with a fishing net. As I started the performance, a sudden snowfall blanketed us and the entire area. The Baltic Sea is regarded as "the sea of escape“ due to refugee escape during World War II by maritime archaeologist Mirja Arnshav. People from various countries cross this sea to escape the threat of death. Some of them survived, while others lost in this sea forever as they tried to escape. Another male waiter in a suit holds up a microphone and picks up the sound, his movements triggered by the actions and sounds of the other men, magnifying their subtly arrogant actions by quickly highlighting them, as if he were holding a tracking device and a loudspeaker. 'Vase' is a popular term used to describe a superficially good-looking woman. It is a term widely used in China to stigmatise women. It refers to a stereotyped image of a beautiful woman who is perceived to be incompetent, or her endeavours and intelligence are always overshadowed by her appearance.Men slapping their waistbands is a typical image of an extremely arrogant and commanding man, referring to an archetype of traditional masculinity, while adding humour and tension to the seemingly casual, even run-down environment where they lived at the time. The construction site was previously a restaurant, which was quickly demolished during the process as we prepared for the work. The restaurant and the whole ruin where we initially planned to do the work was all gone in three days. This work is a collaboration of Hijack打劫. In the evening, another man kicked the same jackfruit while walking along the same path. Along the way, both men and the nudged kicked jackfruit passed 'Mother's Bridge' and a closed shop called 'Where the Girl Walked'. The jackfruit is a unique fruit native to the far south of China and south-east Asia. It has a barbed shell, and is usually opened violently with a knife.
